    Sharon has served UC San Diego since 1993, as the founding director of Research Development since 2008. She has contributed to the success of numerous multi-investigator research initiatives, and to extramural awards totaling hundreds of millions of dollars. Sharon provides guidance and in-depth support for the development of research proposals to public and private sponsors, across all fields. In addition to major proposal development, Sharon’s foci include professional development for early-career investigators and assistance to those at all levels in identifying and pursuing relevant funding opportunities. Sharon holds a Ph.D. in Oceanography from Oregon State University and a B.A. in Earth Sciences from Dartmouth College.

    Wendy joined the RD team in 2018, and has worked as a research development and program management professional at UC San Diego since 2010. She has more than 15 years of administration and project management experience in consultancy, research, and education, with significant experience in the environment, energy and clean technology areas. Prior to 2018, Wendy was the Research Program Manager for two research units at UC San Diego - the Center for Energy Research and Food & Fuel for the 21st Century. She has provided guidance, support and coordination for more than 200 research proposals to a range of federal, state and private sponsors. She has also served as a project manager on four multi-million dollar consortia projects. Wendy received her B.A. in Psychology from Bowdoin College.

  • Lynsey Fitzpatrick

    Lynsey manages limited-submission and intramural funding opportunities, coordinating scientific review committees and working with individuals and teams of faculty to develop funding searches. She previously served as program and special project manager in the Office of Innovation and Commercialization, where she developed campus-wide innovation initiatives and metrics. Her background includes international research programs, development communications, marketing, and faculty governance, with prior roles in MIT’s Office of the President, the MIT Skoltech Initiative, Harvard Business School, and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Lynsey received an M.A. in Russian Studies and B.A. in Social Anthropology from Harvard University. 

  • I-Hsun Wu

    I-Hsun works in close collaboration with faculty and researchers to design compelling, visually appealing imagery to attract attention and potential funding to facilitate research. Her primary goal is to clarify and represent complex ideas from scientific research into accurate, educational and inspirational visuals through her artistic expertise. Before joined the RD team in 2020, I-Hsun was a scientific and medical illustrator for the Institute for Cell Engineering at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Her artworks have been exhibited in several exhibitions and won salon awards. Her works have been published in peer-reviewed journals such as Cell and Science. I-Hsun received an M.A. in Biological and Medical Illustration from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and a B.F.A in Communication Arts: Scientific and Preparatory Medical Illustration from Virginia Commonwealth University. She is a board-certified medical illustrator.
